CIVILIZATION / COLLINGS
1. Who is Matthew Collings? Why should we believe his stories?
Collings chose to discuss a wide range of art history. Why? What was his point?
Mathew Collings is a British art critic, writer, broadcaster, and artist who was best known for his work on talking about ancient art and the meaning behind them. We should believe his stories because of the deep knowledge of art history and where and when some of the most popular paints and art work came from. His honesty and reputation for his views on the art world is what makes people believe what he has to say and his stories. Collings wanted to make sure that everyone got a good look at art history and made sure that it was accessible to everyone. His point was that he wanted everyone to be exposed to art and know the history
2. What storytelling approaches did Collings use to tell his stories? Compare his film to those of Marlow, Bruce, Schama, Greenaway, Hockney and Me. Who is the worst story teller so far? Why?
At first Collings talks about the different types of ways to talk about stories and how to tell them and the ways that it could depend on with the viewer. He stays away from the more modern way of story telling and tries to stay more with the old ways of doing it. I think that Hockney is the worst story teller because he doesn't explain his art he wants the viewer to be able to tell their own story when people see it he doesn't want his own views of his paintings to cloud the judgment of the people viewing his art pieces and the stories that he wrote.
3. What image from your generation do you think will survive to speak to future generations?
I think that this image will be remembered for a long time because it shows what a typical teenagers room looks like with there being the normal things like a bed and clothes scattered everywhere and then there is the electronics that show that times have changed and will always continue to change
