Final Exam

 1. I choose Banksy because he is an artist that I know a little bit about and I want to be able to learn more about. Compared to the other films where I didn't know any of the artists. Banksy is an artist that I learned about when I was in school and I learned all of the basics and the work that he did. 2. The film maker wanted to make Banksy look like an artist that inspired many people in the art world and I agree that he did because there are many artists that looked at his work and wanted to be able to make similar things as Banksy does. He also portrays him as a person who hides behind his work as he doesn't want people to know who he is. He also wants us to realize that being every piece of art that Banksy makes there is always a story behind it that tells us what he was thinking when he was making the art piece. 3.   Banksy uses stencils to create intricate cut-outs that he can quickly apply to urban surfaces.  Stenciling allows him to work quickly, which is impor...

THE SHOCK - HUGHES

 1. As one of the first institutions in the US solely dedicated to the exhibition of modern art, MoMA was entering relatively uncharted territory.  2. The public has become a way to share what other people have been able to accomplish in the art world and they want to share what they have done.  3 .  The purpose of modern museums is  to collect, preserve, interpret, and display objects of artistic, cultural, or scientific significance for the study and education of the public . A museum should hold art in place for people to be able to see and enjoy.

WARHOL - PBS

 1. The shooting by Valerie Solanas, Warhol's early career as commercial illustrator, His close relationship with the "Factory" scene. I like Warhol more because he tells his stories with a certain way that he helps us with any questions that the reader might have. Yes Warhol is considered to be an Avant-Garde because his way of art has challenged traditional art and how we see it.  2.  Warhol's Coca-Cola bottles represent a commentary on mass consumerism in America, highlighting the ubiquity and seemingly democratic nature of a product like Coke, where even the wealthiest individuals consume the same thing as the poorest;  his decision to paint it was a paradigm shift as it  elevated a mundane object to fine art, showcasing the power of advertising and challenging traditional notions of artistic value. 3. He mimicked the advertising art commercial style with this he made a whole new style of art that made it more modern. I think that this is important because i...

Minimalism - Pop

 1.  His early work ranged widely in style and subject matter, and displayed considerable understanding of modernist painting.  However, the mature Pop style he arrived at in 1961, which was inspired by comic strips, was greeted by accusations of banality, lack of originality, and, later, even copying. 2.  Roy Lichtenstein was primarily driven by a desire to elevate the often overlooked aesthetic of popular culture, particularly comic books, into fine art by  directly referencing their imagery, bold colors, and graphic style 3. I don't  think that he is a copycat I think that he gets an idea and he elevates that idea as a way to make his own sense of art.

Film 3: Painters Painting

1. This introduction explains American painting's issue with subject matter….. What does this mean to you? Use examples from the intro   They said that paintings were getting tangled with the problems that America was having and that stopped the creativity from being put on a canvas because they were paintings things that people didn't want to see because they were Americas problems. They also talk about how they feel like painting should be something like portraits about ourselves and not talk about the problems that we are having.  2. Explain why Raushenberg insisted that he erase a piece by Willem de Kooning for his masterpiece  Erased de Kooning. He wanted to try and explore the art concept of the creation of art by using erasure. He wanted to do this to be able to try new things that other artists haven't done so that he could try a new angle at the modern art to make his own art style. He thought that this would add a level of significance to his artwork because it ...

Film 2: Pollock

He talks about how much painting has been modernized and how much it has changed over time and then depending on the artists and how everyone wants to have something that makes them what they are. He also wants to tell people that these new artists want to make a statement with their art because that is what separates them from other artists. This changes my experience with art because it only shows me what I already think and that is that every artist has something that they would like to have as their own way of setting themselves apart from others. It doesn't bother me that they showed his downfall because it could teach other people what not to do in order to get to the place that he fell under.  Macho modernism was when people after the second world war were painting things to look like they were macho. This was also a time where men weren't really seen as being able to be artists because it wasn't macho and it didn't show what men were supposed to be like.

FILM 1: DALI

I think what makes this film interesting is that Dali considers himself the most free artist of all time because he was able to do so many things with his art that he would want to. He would use costumes as a way to express his paintings and what he wanted to show with them and he would put all of his time to show what he wanted with them. He would talk about how there was always a specific element to all of his paintings that would make people look at his paintings. Landscapes was something that was important to him because he wanted the place of his art to be an important showcase of his paintings
